‘Alter’ is an Indie and Arts magazine concept developed in a group at KEA during a module called ‘Magazine Layout’. The word ‘alter’ means to change in character or composition, typically in a comparatively small but significant way. The magazine concept explores mind-altering experiences, their origins, benefits, and personal stories honestly, without glamorizing them. Topics vary from substance-free practices and sensory experiences to psychedelic drugs. I was responsible for the 'Psilocybin Mushrooms’ chapter of the magazine through its visual direction, typography, colours, layout, and photography. In addition, the group chose my design and logo as the magazine cover.
The 'Psilocybin Mushrooms chapter features compelling stories, mesmerising photography, and engaging typography and layout. The cover is eye-catching and sets the tone for the magazine's focus on mind-altering experiences. The final product was praised for its honest and authentic exploration of mind-altering experiences and the ability to tackle such a controversial topic.
